I Can’t Believe it’s on YouTube! GASPAR NOE MEETS HARMONY KORINE
Story: “Enfant terrible” filmmakers meet in Nashville.
Why You Should See It: In the tradition of Frankenstein meets Dracula, or The Mummy meets Tarzan, or Godzilla meets King Kong… now we officially have NOE meets KORINE.
The guys who brought you “I Stand Alone,” “Kids,” “Irreversible,” “Gummo” and “Enter the Void” meet in Nashville for one evening in this – of course! – European TV show.
Harmony Korine, who’s supposedly sober, yet will probably look like he smokes weed 24/7 for life, hosts Gaspar Noe, who looks super sober (no matter what he really does) and the result is just what you would expect. The uncanny.
Korine gives Noe a tour of his neighborhood, rarely talking about filmmaking, but rather the people he knows, the restaurants he hangs out in, and the establishments that were once open but are now gone forever. There is a fun moment where Korine speaks before a screening and introduces Noe as his friend Gaspar (and there is the impression that no one knows who he is).
Imagine an Anthony Bourdain episode directed by Werner Herzog. I suppose, if you’re not a fan of either, these 51 minutes could be better spent… but if you admire these guys, or did at one point, you will get a kick out of watching the two cinematic rebels hanging out, saying weird shit, eating fried stuff and just kicking back. I Can’t Believe It’s On YouTube.
